Rome, Sep. 30 (CWNews.com) - Looking forward to the Synod of Bishops, which will open in Rome on October 2, two leading prelates offered their views that the bishops' discussions on the Eucharist will be primarily pastoral, and will demonstrate the collegial authority of the world's Catholic hierarchy.
In separate interviews with the I Media news agency, the secretary-general of the Synod of Bishops-- who had the primary responsibility for preparations before the October Synod meeting-- emphasized the collegiality of the Synod. And the French prelate who was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) as the special secretary for the event predicted that the focus would be on pastoral issues.
